Sorry if not the best place to post this, but I feel like you guys will be able to feel my pain.
Our local community hall is hosting our municipal office's Xmas party Friday night. Not a huge crowd, 52 people. Chicken or fish, 3 course meal plus appetisers. We're only open for fundraising and community events, so don't typically keep a stocked kitchen. Today however, I filled up our fridge and freezer with stock for the upcoming supper.
10pm Thursday night, I'm ready to pop the cocktail meatballs in the oven (I do them under the broiler), and to start deepfeying my wontons. Figure I'll get that out of the way tonight and have a head start for tomorrow. What happens? Bang. Old Man Winter causes the power to go out. Reddit's front page tells me its colder than Mars where I live. Great.
Thankfully, my buddy in the neighbouring village still has power. Pack up all my shit, empty the freezer and the fridge, and head over to his place. Unpack, get cooking, wrap up at just before 1am Friday morning.
I just got a text from my bud. Now his power's out. Confident my freezer stuff will be ok. Probably going to have to chuck the stuff I put in the fridge - I'm just not certain that any of it will have had time to cool to reasonable temp since we finished so late.
I fucking hate winter.
