Some Suggestions!

PS: Made this post a couple of months ago but I'm updating it so I deleted the old one and made this.

  1. Descriptions Changes!
    • They need to allow more characters. Sometimes I have to link to my blog so people can read everything while YouTube fits it perfectly fine
    • They need to show up on the Mobile Apps.
  2. Profile Tweaks!
    • More Color! Doesn't have to be a drastic change. For instance, just changing the Links, Follow button, and/or Category Tags to be tinted with a color pulled from your Cover would make each profile feel more your own.
    • You can sort by Newest and Most Popular so why not Oldest?
    • Transparent backgrounds on profile photos become black which clashes with 90% of transparent images. Instead it should either become white, give you to option of white or black, or actually be transparent instead of auto-adding a background.
    • If your links aren't the main sites like Facebook, Twitter, etc. they show up as generic globe icons. If you don't have a custom icon for a URL, pull the favicon if possible instead of just the generic globe as it will look way better. If Favicon isn't available, then use the Globe.
  3. App Changes!
    • The above mentioned Descriptions. Not only should they show up when viewing a video but they should also be able to add when uploading.
    • Android apps is nowhere near the iOS version in features/layout/functionality. Puffern is a good third-party app but a lot is broken since they don't update it anymore. Maybe you guys can see if you can combine forces to make a better app?
  4. General Site Tweaks!
    • Readd your mascot icon in the header! Not a big thing but helps with branding and there's enough room there next to the wordmark.
    • A dark mode for the site! Light websites do look clean but are horrible at night.
    • YouTube had an awesome feature that if you followed tons of people, you could make groups to organize your subs (like a Tech group for all the channels you watch who do Tech videos). This was great because say you follow 100 channels... Your subs on both YT and Vidme are in a sidebar with links below. Luckily Vidme puts about stuff there but YouTube had the important Settings link (on Mobile but still) underneath everything!! That meant to even make a simple settings change, you had to scroll forever. This was fine when they had that feature but they discontinued it because who even knows why and made everything way more complicated. Heck I have an Android TV right now with the YouTube app and I can't go to any user after the letter O cause they put a stupid limit on the sidebar making it near impossible to view my subs.
  5. Importers!
    • You can already import videos by uploading them with the link but what about other things?
    • A Subscription/Followers importer would be nice. Heck it could be a third-party tool if not by Vidme (kinda like the Uptrend Analytics). You would log in with your YouTube/Google account, it would use the YT api to pull who you subbed to or even who subs to you, if a Vidme profile includes a YouTube link then you can use that to match channels and if not you could do a user search and ask the person if it's the right person.
    • Obviously, playlists don't exist yet but maybe a playlist importer could work by matching video titles from a YouTube playlist by you to add videos with the same title on your Vidme to a playlist.
  6. Categories!
    • Obviously we need more. Food/Cooking would be a good option.
    • The category page (and possibly if you hover over a video's category tag) should show a description of said category. For instance, most of the current ones make perfect sense what they are! Anime is Anime, Games are Games, etc. but what the heck is Weird Wide Web for? Memes? Anything with no category? Drama? Lists? Point is, some categories the name is very vague so how do we know if we are putting it in the right place. Either don't use vague names (which isn't fun though) or tell us what it is.
  7. Show Pages!
    • Playlists needed to be added of course but also you could have "show" pages where you could set a subset of your uploads as a separate page without managing multiple accounts. These could either be completely separate profiles or a "Sub-Profile" and could be followed separately.
    • This would be perfect for people like Channel Awesome in your featured page as 90% of their stuff would be under the normal Channel Awesome account but they could give their most popular series, Nostalgia Critic, it's own page.
    • For instance, if it was done as a sub-profile the URL could be like http://ift.tt/2inuL0O or of course a separate profile like this http://ift.tt/2hC2HYQ
    • If you followed Channel Awesome, it would ask if you also wanted to follow Nostalgia Critic essentially making it like they are the same account in your follow feed and if you say no, you would only get non-NC stuff. If you directly followed NC instead, you would only get NC content and none of their other stuff.

So that's all mine so far! Sorry it was so long but I really want the site to get good! (Heck one of my favorite YouTubers today, Lost Pause, uploaded a video where somebody asked him about Vidme and he basically said (paraphasing) "I hope it improves, but right now it's too limited to be a YouTube competitor and works more as a YouTube companion." so you have got to improve quickly to succeed.)
