Cooking grenades

So I was playing Favela in armory and it was 1v1. I was Sledge and the other person was Caviera. I rushed into OBJ while she wasn't in there and when I missed a couple shots I pulled out my grenade to throw at her. I was cooking it for approximately 2-3 seconds and then she downed me. The grenade just disappeared and I was under the impression that if you're cooking a grenade and you get killed or downed, that the grenade is still live and can still explode. Is this true or does it just disappear?Cooking Grenade
