Happy new year all!
I (early 30s/F) have been in London for about 6 months now and I recently spent the new year in a leg cast as I recently fractured my ankle after a fall. I was given a pair of crutches, which currently I'm struggling with.
I have been researching online and found out about knee scooter/walker which looks like it can help in terms of getting around. I'm thinking of getting it:
A) to get to work - I usually walk to work and it takes about 10-15 mins. I don't think I can use my crutches to hop along all the way to work! Also I'm concerned about London's cobbled streets. FYI I work around London Bridge. I thought that I might take Uber the first week or so to work but trying to see if I have other options.
B) to get around at home and in office - I'm struggling to do things at home because I can't carry anything and do things that require 2 hands like cooking, etc and crutches are really tiring. I haven't started work since my injury as it is still holiday but my concern is I work in a professional environment, so not sure how acceptable knee scooter/walker is.
Would love some advice on: - during the time I've been in London, I have not seen anyone using knee scooter, at least not outdoor. Is this not commonly used in London? Or it's just too strange? - should I use the knee scooter/walker to go to work which usually takes about 10-15 mins walk? Is this a silly idea? Anyone has personal experience using this? - how acceptable is knee scooter/walker in professional office environment? To me it's like a wheelchair, but not sure if it's the case here. I will be checking with my colleagues and my company's HR but would love to hear inputs from the people here. - should I just suck it up and stick to crutches? It has only been a week since I got it :(
Also any advice/tips on surviving on crutches in London will be very much appreciated!
