Has anyone else experienced lobsters dying very quickly only when buying from chinatown markets? (Details inside)

Twice now I've bought something from a seafood market and had it seem very fresh, and then suddenly die as soon as I got home. 1st was some crayfish, 2nd was this 3 pound lobster I just bought. They always look SUPER fresh at the time of purchase, like claws out tail moving etc.

This lobster was like that about an hour ago. Came home and he seemed okay, a little less fresh. Put him in the fridge with a moist paper towel over his head/body. I checked just now (2 hours total elapsed) and he's absolutely dead.

Anyone else encounter this? I've bought fresh lobster from other markets and they have been alive for hours after. My dad says the Chinese markets put stuff into the water to make the animals look more alive (were Chinese so it's "through the grape vine")
