Don't get me wrong, I know that having a voiced protagonist immediately nullifies the amazing dialogue choices the player character had in previous games, but I felt like how my character actually looked mattered in Fallout 4 more than any Bethesda game.
In Fallout 3 and New Vegas, I tried to make my character look like me as much as possible in my first playthroughs. However, I soon discovered that you can only see your character if you die, go to third person mode, or use VATS. Skyrim is a little better with the camera going to third person on several occasions, such as when crafting or during killcams, but it's still very limited. Fallout 4 not only drastically improves the third person camera (such as animations being better for the player character), but the dialogue camera cutting back to my character meant I was actually very conscious of how my character looked. I would actually make an effort to take off any helmet I was wearing during conversation so I could watch my character talk.
Of course you see your character during crafting and cooking and VATS, a la Skyrim and Fallout 3/NV, but seeing your character during dialogue made me feel like how I designed my character mattered. Coupled with the new sculpting system for character creation, as opposed to sliders, I actually had a blast getting my character exactly the way I wanted it.
While I would ask for a better dialogue system overall and, of course, better writing, I would not at all be against the inclusion of this system in the next Fallout game if it meant seeing my character more often.
