Things you wished you took with you...

In one of my current campaigns we're about to head out on a mission and won't be back in town for at least a week.

So far we've generally stayed around town meaning that resupply would be available on a daily basis or within one or two days.

Party composition is:

  • 3rd level Oread Tavern Brawler
  • 3rd level Pixie Witch, Occult Patron and Fennec Fox Familiar
  • 3rd level Half-Gnome (half human) Artisan

As part of the mission an unknown level Arcanist will be joining us, both for narrative reasons and combat support.

We're heading out to the ruins of a former arcane institution, with roughly a days worth of travel on both ends.

Reported enemies are: No undead (though one NPC claims to have heard rumors of floating heads), predominantly animals/wildlife. Potential bandit encounter or similar along the way. (Knowing my GM there will be some curveball enemy as she's loathed to give me too much information to work with.)

My party members are fairly new to Pathfinder and aren't used to trying to plan ahead. So I feel that going out practically unprepared is going to cause issues. On the upside, as Artisan I can supplement needs in the field through crafting as long as I can find some downtime to do so.

My question to you all?

What kind of items have you regretted not taking or were really obvious in hindsight on lengthier excursions? And what (obscure?) item were you really happy that you DID take despite it seeming useless at first glance? We're assuming that the basic equipment is already accounted for. (Cooking equipment, food, sleeping gear, lightsources etc.)

  • Whether it is a certain magical item (potion, scroll etc) in case of emergency.
  • An extra length of rope because the 50ft you had didn't suffice.
  • Some mundane tool that you used in a creative way.

And so on.
