Careers in food science?

I'm considering whether or not to get a b.s. in food science/nutrition. My long term goal includes working in Thailand.

By the time I graduate I'd be in my mid thirties, functionally fluent in Thai and English. Background in restaurant cooking and expect to have a degree in chemistry with coursework in food science and nutrition from an internationally known school.

I expect my age might pose a problem and a lot of ads specify Thai nationals only (and not so tempting salaries).

Is this a path worth exploring? I've thought about contacting various companies with a strong presence in Thailand(e.g. Kraft, Nestlé, Tetra Pak) to get an idea. I want to find out if it's viable at all or if I should kill the idea quickly.

Anybody in the know?
