Stage 1: Beautifully Braised
It's how the relationship starts. She asks who did the low-carb keto-friendly chili at the party, or the braised short ribs. I wind up fielding her questions about the recipe, or she wants to argue about one of my culinary choices, or both. I tell her she can do it her way next time, and I'll be happy to take a bite.
Stage 2: A Refreshing Beverage
Our schedules overlap when we're both near this new bar in the middle of the week. We argue about how to most efficiently sample the variety within the drinks menu. Stumbling outside, but to different sides of the public transit rails, we figure we can continue this exercise next week.
Stage 3: Salad, In Sickness For Health
"I'm not really that sick, I think it's mostly my allergies." Fine. I needed to get rid of the quinoa - as I wasn't really eating a lot after getting it for my vegetarian friend's party not too long ago - and mixed it in with some roasted sweet potato, greens, and other sundries for a light refreshing salad. I told her she could return the container whenever.
Stage 4: The Whole Chicken
We couldn't find anyone else who wanted to go along with us that Saturday night, and every modestly tolerable eating establishment near the site was notoriously busy with lousy service. I told her I'd throw in an entire chicken and roast it for dinner at my place. She said it's too much effort on my part, but I told her that the power of YouTube made it easy. The chicken itself convinced her.
Stage 5: A Kitchen Faux-Pas
I only burnt the bacon in the oven - trust me, for making a ton of it relatively fast and consistently, it's fantastic - because she wanted to make out in the kitchen. Still, I think I can forgive her. Maybe. She did let me stuff her like the chicken last night, after all.
Stage 6: The Reverse Sear
She doubted whether it would be any better. But slow and steady in the oven and then hard and fast on the stove does the trick each time. After the steak dinner tonight, we're not going anywhere except to bed.
Stage 7: A Generous Breakfast
Bacon - unburnt this time! - and pancakes and eggs and coffee and... I may have overdone it. However, it does have the effect of wanting to coax the two of us back into bed for a post-prandial nap. Well, the napping occurs after the fun, let's be honest.
Stage 8: Lamination is Love
She's coming over tomorrow, and I need to get the laminated dough for the croissants ready. Maybe the Kouign-Amanns... it's a bit much, isn't it? Then again, they are sooo good.....
My DPP profile is here. Insofar as to what I'm looking for as a result of this prompt.... hell if I know. I figure it's to see who else is on my freak frequency, I suppose. ;) If this catches your interest, that's cool. If not, but it makes you make to poke around my posting history, that works too!
Otherwise, there are cooking videos to watch on YouTube. :)
