Hello everyone. This week we talk to /u/anonymouse35!
How/when did you start running?
I started with track in middle school, because all my friends were doing it. We had weight classes and I'm TINY, so I was the top of my weight class (<90 lbs) in the sprints. I was the shit, even though my times would've gotten me destroyed in open events. Also, I started long jumping.
Then, my sophomore year, my coach threw me in an 800 and I fell in love. My love affair had ups and downs, but ended in heartbreak.
Post-high-school-graduation, I decided to increase my mileage and try new things. I did a 10k and a half, but I missed the mile and now I'm coming back (with a vengeance).
PRs?
Oh boy, there's a lot. I'll just list some, because there are lots of not good ones.
-
400mH- 1:15 (not great, but it's the school record, so that's notable)
-
800- 2:27 split, 2:31.5 open (still salty about not running sub 2:30 in an open 8)
-
1600- 5:34
-
3200- 12:27
-
6k- 25:11 (this is actually better than my 5k PR, if we don't count PRs from splits)
-
Half Marathon- 1:42
-
Long jump- 16 feet 4 inches
-
Triple jump- 35 feet 10 inches.
Favorite shoes to train or race in?
Mizuno Waveriders. I had the 18s and now I have the 20s, they're great, I love them.
Favorite weather to train or race in?
I love warm weather. Sunny, high 50s, low 60s, with a slight breeze is probably my ideal training and racing weather.
Next Race?
I think I'll be at the Club Penn Relays. Definitely doing the open mile, and maybe a relay if my club can get 4 girls together to race. I'd love to run the 4x8 again, even if my leg speed is very much not up where I want it to be right now.
Goals this year?
I'd like to PR in the mile (maybe) and go sub-24 in the 6k this fall (these both feel like big stretches).
Proudest Accomplishment?
Going sub-2:30 in an 8. I had spent so much time working at that goal (sophomore year until the very end of senior year), and I crossed the line and knew that I had done it. It was one of my last races of the year, and I was stoked. I had run the perfect split to get my team's 4x8 to our district meet (unfortunately we missed the time by 10 seconds). I was curled up on the turf when my coach came over and said "2:27" and I think I almost cried.
Things you do outside of running?
Be in college. I love to cook, but I don't have kitchen access right now (so I just watch a lot of food network when I do watch TV, I'm watching Chopped on my laptop while I'm typing this). I like to knit and crochet. I call myself the "old lady friend" of my group.
Things that interest you outside of running?
Isn't this the same question? I like puns and jokes, send me your favorite puns!
Favorite subreddits?
r/gifrecipes (they're so... relaxing? to watch) r/cooking r/relationships (it's like listening to your friends' drama, without any of the messy-ness of actually knowing the involved parties!) To be honest, I mostly reddit (is that a verb?) here.
Origin of your username?
My first tumblr username was anonymouseramblings because I thought the pun was super creative, but that was too long, so I cut it down. Then I needed a number and I was like "35" because that was the end number of my breakout 800 (the 800 was like my bread and butter). If I were to re-name myself here, I'd probably do tyranasaurusbex, since that's more me now.
Strava link if you use it?
-
Regular Mod Q. Any sort of flair options you'd like to see? Or is the current setup groovy?
-
It is March. How is 2017 treating you so far?
-
How much do you see shoe technology improving in the next few years? Do you believe shoes make that much of a difference?
-
If you had to design your own training plan do you think that you could? Do you more prefer following a set guide instead of coming up with something on your own? Do you just do the do and run whatever feels best that day?
-
Anything else you'd like to add?
