Let's look at the stats for this season only five episodes in:
Episode 1). Quickfire - Winners [Brooke & Jim]
Sudden Death Cook-Off - Winner [John] Eliminated [Gerald]
Episode 2). Elimination - Winner [Casey] Eliminated [Annie]
Episode 3). Quickfire - Winner [Sheldon]
Elimination - Winner [Brooke] Eliminated [Sam]
Episode 4). Quickfire - Winner [Casey]
Elimination - Winner [Katsuji] Eliminated [BJ]
Episode 5). Quickfire - Winner [Brooke]
Elimination - Winner [John] Eliminated [Silvia]
There is a clear pattern emerging and I don't like it. After eight challenges total, the rookie Top Chef contestants have only won one challenge, and that was the first episode all rookie challenge won by Jim.
I am really frustrated with their decision to continue with this returning chef format after it was so poorly received in season 10 Seattle, by both the contestants and the viewers. Instead, they double down and bring back even MORE past chefs. The rookie chefs this season are very skilled and have entertaining personalities, but they are getting overshadowed and booted off for "The Brooke and Katsuji Show" before we can even see what they are capable of.
Just imagine how much better this season would have been if it was like a normal season with sixteen rookies that we could get to know and learn their cooking styles. But nooooo, we get half rookies and half returning chefs, many of which made it to the finals of their season. So now as soon as we start to like a rookie chef they get sent home while "Veterans" like Katsuji and Amanda get to hang around until they eventually get sent home by Brooke.
BRAVO, EITHER HAVE ALL RETURNING CHEFS OR ALL ROOKIES. MIXING VETERANS AND ROOKIES TAKES AWAY FROM THE COMPETITION AND MAKES THE SHOW LESS ENJOYABLE!!!
