I love taking my time with this game and exploring a LOT. I'm 10 hours in and I haven't even gotten to the first quest outside of the Great Plateau yet.
Early on, you run into some expensive as hell equips, especially that lucrative stealth set. But by this time, I was able to easily purchase the set.
Solution is very simple: cooking! I always cook with 5 ingredients. Anything that heals less than 10 rupees per health (example, 100 rupees for 4 hearts) I would sell. When you cook with 5 ingredients, you almost always get 80 or more rupees per dish.
Using fish or meat will provide even more rupees per sale.
