I have recently purchased a Victoria 8 inch tortilla press, and the common use is to use plastic to keep tortillas from sticking, and that only corn tortillas can really be done. (Flour tortillas are too stretchy and sticky, when you get them off the plastic, they spring back smaller.) I think if I can get the surface smoothed and seasoned, I could develop a non stick surface and at the least be able to cut plastic out of the operation. As this tool never gets heated by cooking, this will have to be done with intention rather than time.
Here is how the current surface looks: http://ift.tt/2mn13MX It is an 8 inch surface, and I would like to strip the seasoning, smooth with a wire cup or orbital sander, then season 3 or 4 times using either flax or crisbee. I would love to get input from the community here on the practicality of this project, and I am also unaware of seasoned cast iron non-stick properties at room temperature, so that's a factor. Would this be a waste of time?
Here's an amazon link to the product I'm working with: http://ift.tt/2nfmcpU
