Playthrough ideas from Anyone who has beaten the game / put in significant time?

So I want my first playthrough to be really challenging. I bought the game because I heard the combat was much deeper and more demanding the older titles, and while that seems true it still doesn't seem very difficult. Granted, I've only played a few hours and gotten to Hateno Village. I'm thinking of doing a 3 hearts and meatless playthrough to keep it tough, but are there any things I should do (or, more likely, AVOID) to make the game satisfyingly challenging? Any OP weapons/tactics/etc.... I particularly hate games where you get more money and items than you could ever possibly need. And that seems to be the case so far. Just cooking all the food I happen upon has yielded like 4 pages of cooked food already.

Anyway, I'd love some input from anyone who has put some serious time in already!!
