Anyways, you can clearly see a weapons locker containing four phasers, located right beside what appears to be a prep area.
My theory is that when you're a ship traveling far outside the realm of Federation space, you may need to host dinner parties using a variety of ingredients. Spines, teeth, venom sacs, claws, all fun things to contend with, while trying not to get murdered by what's going to end up being a side dish.
Telling the Captain that dinner will be delayed because it just ate the sous chef isn't acceptable, and replacement chefs are hard to find, knowing that they could find themselves being attacked by what passes for asparagus on some other planet.
