Food prep worker with no experience cooking taking on actual cooking responsibilities. Should I ask for a raise?

I work for a company that is contracted by another company to provide food services to their employees. I started about 6 months ago with the only experience relating to food being fast food work (mainly cashiering).

I was hired as a food prep and cashier, but now they want me to do a lot of actual cooking of meats and such. It's more responsibility and more work. How should I ask for a raise? Am I in the right to ask for a raise?
