Save bitter leftover lentil stew?

I got a lot of leftover lentil and beetroot stew from a friend, which made me happy since I'm quite broke at the moment. But, it's not very good. I think they had too much wine in it too late in the cooking process since it tastes a lot of alcohol, and maybe too much bay leaf? It has a weird bitter taste that I could imagine being the taste of bay leaf. What could I add to make it better and less bitter? Thanks for your help!
