Hopefully this is the right sub. I'm not quite sure.
Like the title says. I've given up on the kitchen in my apartment because the other two roommates leave it perpetually trashed and unusuable. I'm not a clean cook or especially neat housekeeper-my standards aren't that high, but I can't contemplate cooking in that kitchen anymore. I'm not eating or spending too much money at restaurants or frozen things to avoid the kitchen, and it's effecting my quality of life. So it's time to make a change. And I can't change my roommates, so I'm going to change where I cook.
So does anybody have any recommendations for a good hot plate? I make a lot of pasta dishes so the alleged fast boiling and precise temperature control of induction appeals to me. I'm also considering a nice backpacking or camping stove(I'll just cook by the window with a fan bringing air in).
Honestly I'm not a hugely adventurous or ambitious cook, so one burner is probably manageable if inconvenient. Two should be fine. I likely won't be able to use both burners on high for a two burner system-the electric system isn't great in this shithole of a building.
My biggest concern is decent temperature control-the stove I grew up using is terrible and utterly frustrating to go back to. Low-ish temperatures, like for cheese sauces or breakfast stuff(omelettes most often) are what I'm concerned about.
I doubt the $10 things you see at walmart will be adequate because I'll be using this for most of my meals. I also tend to cook a week's worth of meals on one or two days a week and just freeze things in meal-sized portions. So durability/quality for everyday use is a must.
Thanks y'all.
