My (refined) proposed changes to Warly to make him good.

I'm aware I posted about changes for Warly recently. Here is the thread. I listed some ideas I had, got some feedback, and I would love some more. Additionally I posted the other one as a sort of random thought jumble while typing on my phone, but for this one I actually wanna give some tools to Warly. I think the idea behind Warly has some good potential that could be brought out.

So first, let's look at Warly's current stats.

-Health: 150

-Hunger: 250

-Sanity: 200

-Starts the game with a Portable Crock pot that must be placed to cook.

-Starts the game with a Chef's pouch, a backpack that insulates (but does not cool) food placed within it. Can be crafted with 1 rope and 1 cloth.

-Gains 33% more positive stats from eaten Crock Pot foods, take 33% less of the negative stats.

-Has four unique recipes, Sweet Potato Souffle, Monster Tartare, Fresh Fruit Crepes, and Mussel Bouillabaise.

-His hunger drains 33% faster than normal

-Only receives 70% of the positive stats from raw food, 80% from cooked food, and 90% from dried food. The negative effects for raw food are increased by 30%, for cooked food by 20%, and for dried food by 10%.

-Upon eating a food that he has already eaten in the past 1.75 days, he gains less hunger, health, and sanity than if he had waited 1.75 days, with the percentage increasing each time he eats the same thing, up to a 70% debuff of the food's stats.

First of all, here is a much better writeup on Warly than I could ever make. This goes super in depth about his flaws.

So. What does Klei want Warly to be? From what it looks like, they want him to be able to cook on the move, while making players eat exclusively crock pot food, as well as encouraging making varied foods. While this is a cool idea, it's poorly done. If you eat a Meaty Stew, you gain 150 hunger, which is enough hunger to last you for two days, enough to get past the cooking memory and make another. He isn't really encouraging diversity, he's kind of doing the opposite.

His crock pot loses all effectiveness once you set up a base. His 'nomadic' vibe can't thrive as he stands now because of things that cannot move with you, such as your Alchemy Engine, your drying racks. He does get a 'mobile fridge' of sorts with his Chef's pouch, as well as the crock pot, but he has to stop to cook anything in it, limiting his mobility.

I'd also like to mention that I feel like Warly is, or at least should be, designed to be good in both Shipwrecked and Reign of Giants, unlike Walani and Woodlegs. Warly and Wilbur seem like the two more 'general' Shipwrecked characters because their benefits are useful in both gamemodes.

So, this is what, IMO, Warly's stats should be:

-Health: 150

-Hunger: 250

-Sanity: 200

(this is what it currently is)

-Starts the game with a Portable Crock Pot, a handheld tool that is identical to a crock pot except it can cook while you're holding it. The crock pot has a very small radius of heat and light when cooking, enough to ward off Charlie but little enough that you'll be taking a major sanity drain. Foods cook about 33% faster than a normal crock pot. The light from the cooking lasts 5-10 seconds after the meal is complete.

-Starts the game with a Chef's Pouch

-Upon eating a Crock Pot food that he hasn't eaten in the past 3 days, receives a 33% boost to its effectiveness. Has no downside to eating food repeatedly.

-Non-Crockpot foods are only 70% as effective, regardless of being raw, cooked, or dried.

-Has 10 unique recipes

1 through 4: The recipes he has currently. They're basically just more expensive versions of already existing foods except for the Fresh Fruit Crepes, but that requires butter.

5 - Glowberry Salad - 3 Glowberries and 1 Foliage. Would drain 45 sanity upon eating, but allows the player to glow for five minutes after consumption with a radius of about double the normal glowberry glow. This allows the player to light themselves up without the need to dedicate a hand, chest, or head slow for the light.

6 - Protein Shake - 2 meats, a dairy product, and filler. Boosts the damage you deal by 33% for 3 minutes. Hurts you for 45 health to eat. This is an expensive recipe to create, and deals considerable damage, but is a great help when trying to tank giants or other strong enemies.

7 - Nectar - 2 Cactus Flowers and 2 Honeys. When eaten, nothing happens. However, 6-8 butterflies will fly to you, briefly flutter around, then go about their normal butterfly business. If eaten at night, after fluttering near you, the butterflies will instantly seek a flower to sleep in. This would be awesome for Warly because it would A) give him some nice healing options and B) give him an easier time finding Butter for his recipes.

8 - Brain Food - So, I'm a little torn on the recipe for this. I want it to be something available in both Shipwrecked and Reign of Giants, that's not too hard to make but not too easy to make. If you have an idea for a recipe, please let me know. The basic idea is that it's a food that, when eaten, gives you Alchemy Engine intelligence for 60 seconds. This would 'mobilize' another one of the immobile buildings at your base, giving you the mobility that he needs.

9 and 10 - I need help here. I think he should have 10 total recipes. I need two more. Since the Glowberry salad is exclusive to RoG, I'd like a recipe that is exclusive to Shipwrecked, and a recipe that helps him in another way.

-Since this is a lot of recipes to keep track of, he should get a Cookbook tab, much like Wickerbottom's Books tab. It would show the recipes and the names of them, but nothing more. This'd help newer players get accustomed to him easier, as well as saving you from alt-tabbing to the wiki so often.

So, these are the proposed changes. I went with his special foods serving utility rather than just the normal health, sanity, and hunger because there are already dedicated foods in place that are amazing (meatballs, jerky, meaty stew, taffy, trail mix, pierogi, etc) and nothing he could get could beat those without being OP.

I'd love him to be sort of like wickerbottom with his foods serving utility like her books.

Anyways, please give me your criticisms of my idea. Thanks for reading it all if you did.
