EDIT: textures I made: http://ift.tt/2hJKcT8
This is something I personally am desperate for. I spend most of my time building in survival mode on servers and this means if I want colours other than grey and brown I have to go through some amount of effort to get it. Obviously that's not always a bad thing and I don't mind having to go to a mesa for clay, red sand, or to a jungle for jungle wood etc. but I feel like black and white are two very basic, versatile colours.
Currently the options for a white stone block are:
Quartz - takes ages to collect and craft into quartz blocks
White clay - slightly pinkish and not found in great amounts and awkward to mine
Diorite - I like polished/diorite a lot but it's not really smooth enough for me
And the options for black stone blocks:
Black clay - I am not willing to grind 560 squid ink. Can't charcoal be used as black dye or something?
Obsidian - blue-ish and I am not willing to grind 70 stacks of obsidian
That's basically it.
My suggestion would be that black bricks are "charred stone bricks" crafted by cooking smooth stone to make charred stone which you then craft into bricks (still uses resources and time but not as insanely much as the current black stone blocks) 4:4 input/output crafting ratio.
and white bricks are "whitened stone bricks" ideally crafted using diorite. 4:4 input/output crafting ratio.
This wouldn't even create that much more variety in easily accessible colours and come on Mojang, I'm sick of all my basic builds being brown and grey because the alternative is grinding for stupid amounts of time.
TLDR: easily obtained black and white stone bricks to give a little variety in basic building blocks
