A female police officer that spotted our crying faces while we were running towards the police station called us out and immediately brought us in for questioning. She asked us what happened but we were still bawling so she gave us time and brought us some water and snacks.
After drinking some water, I explained what happened to my parents and my sister but left out the parts where she turned demon. After hearing my story she asked some policemen to investigate what happened in my home and sent out some policemen out to look for my sister and warn the rest of the neighborhood.
She asked me whether I had relatives, I told her that I have no other family left, my grandparents were already dead and I didn’t know anyone else. Juan interrupted and said that he will take me in as his step brother. Juan called his parents number using his cellphone and told them what happened earlier at my home and asked them if they could somehow become my legal guardian and adopt me.
After a few moments, Juan handed the phone to the policewoman and talked with Juan’s parents. After a few minutes of talking to Juan's parents, she escorted us back to Juan’s home with 3 guards outside the house just in case something happens. We went upstairs to Juan’s room to sleep. I was dreaming of the awful event, sadly they weren’t nightmares, they were real. My parents dead, sister possessed, what’s next?
I woke up hearing gunshots outside the house. Juan was nowhere in sight, I went outside the room to find him. I heard footsteps downstairs. I took quiet steps going downstairs and saw Juan peeking over the windows. I immediately dashed to Juan‘s side and told him to come with me because of the gunshots. I told him that there’s a revolving bookcase in his father’s library/study room. Juan looked puzzled, his parents kept a lot of secrets when it comes to their business but I didn’t know they kept something this important to Juan. Juan is only a month younger than me; he always wanted siblings because he was almost always alone by himself because of his parents constant travelling and whatever secrets they have.
While on our way to the library he told me of what he saw outside the window before I could ask him what the commotion was. A policeman shot two of his comrades dead and tried to go in the house. The moment Juan heard him grasping the door knob he sprinted towards the kitchen which I could only assume were the footsteps I heard earlier.
The policeman tried to open the doorknob but it was as if the doorknob heated up. The man let go instantly, he stood for a few seconds there just staring at the door and eventually left. “What the fuck is going on?” I blurted out while running to the library. I didn’t even feel sorry for the two men that got murdered. What happened yesterday made me desensitized and numb. Nonetheless, it didn’t stop me from wanting to live and have my revenge at the demon that murdered my parents and possessed my sister.
Before we went to the library, I suggested that we go inside Henrietta and Father Augustus’s room. Juan asked me why and I told him what I should have told him before shit happened to my family. Juan didn’t look surprised when I told him the things that I found in their rooms.
“They really were hunting some monsters” Juan said in a
“They told you that they were hunting monsters?” I replied with disbelief in my tone and facial expression.
“No, I suspected them, they were carrying knives with words on them and holy water and some other shit that you would normally find on a horror game with demons and exorcists.” Juan replied
“You knew they carried weapons and other weird shit and you did not tell me this?” I replied with an angry tone.
“Look, I didn’t want anything to do with whatever scary shit or stuff they were into, I just saw Fr. Augustus wearing a holster with a gun and a knife in the scabbard that was with his belt.” Juan replied in a sad tone.
I sighed and took a deep breath and apologized for my angry tone. Juan was my only “family” left, we needed to stick together. Before going to the library, I suggested that we ready up our bags with fresh water, food and other essential items just in case we need to flee the house since anything could happen especially with what happened to my sister, Cecilia.
“Cecilia must not have been the only person to have been possessed.” Juan depressed as he was saying this. “There might be others that have been possessed; I think the pendants we are wearing aren’t just for decoration.” I replied with clear disappointment in my voice.
I was disappointed, if I wasn’t the one who escorted Fr. Augustus then my sister would probably have a pendant like mine given to her. I felt guilty of not being able to save my sister and my parents. I felt guilty of surviving alone.
We changed to better outfits for travelling, packed some clothes, snacks and bottled water in our bags. In addition, we carried some kitchen knives just in case. Thankfully, Juan’s clothes were just the right size even though I was taller than him and a bit bigger. After double checking everything we head to the library while telling Juan about how I saw Henrietta and Fr. Augustus exit from the revolving bookcase. I didn’t catch a glimpse of them pushing a button or whatever made the mechanism that spun the bookcase.
We were at the library, dropped our bags and started searching for switches, levers or anything that might trigger the mechanism in order for the bookcase to open. We searched every nook and cranny but it was pointless; there was absolutely nothing we could find that was a switch or anything that could trigger the bookcase.
Finally, Juan remembered his father telling him of a book that he must never ever pick from the bookcase since he was still a kid. Juan was never interested in any of his father’s books or hobbies which I could only assume why his father never told him anything about their secrets. It was probably for the best that Juan won’t know some secrets; is what they thought because they wanted him to live a normal life.
The book that his father told him was on the highest shelf of the book case, Father Augustus could have easily picked it up since he was around 6“3, a giant among men in my Country. Juan was around 5”8 and I was just 5”10 for scale.
Juan grabbed a chair and dragged it near the book case which he used as a platform to get the book. He pulled it as hard as he can and it lowered like a lever; we heard metallic gear sounds grinding while the bookcase was slowly opening. I have to admit, it was so cool and mysterious that my jaw dropped with astonishment, I forgot the bad things that happened to us at that moment but only temporarily.
I was excited and nervous at the same time, the passage lead downstairs and upstairs with stone tiles akin to a medieval tower. Juan and I split up, he went upstairs and I went downstairs. I was surprised to see a variety of weapons and armor. The place looked like an armory of some sorts; it had some swords and armor that were like what knights used, some native weapons, “Agimats”, firearms and silver bullets. The place also had bookcases with all sorts of books with no decorated covers but only titles.
“The Anatomy of European monsters by Fr. Alphonse Vega – 1726”
“Between worlds by Thomas Wicker – 1672”
“Identifizierte Arten von Vampiren auf der ganzen Welt von Fr. Christoffer Graf – 1926”
“The Hierarchy of European Vampires by Edward Stone - 1568”
“What you know and don’t know about monsters by Francis Smith – 1987”
“History of Exorcisms of the Order of the Purifying Hand – 1326 - 1978”
There were a lot of books, not just the 6 that I mentioned; it was like a library/armory of some sorts. There was also an open passageway and a big vault like one you would see in a bank. The vault was very sturdy and secure; it required a passcode, a key to unlock and a combination padlock. The passageway which I didn’t venture into in yet was deep and dark.
The armory only had a select few weapons that had words engraved on them, most of them were in Latin and some were runic. I grabbed two of the lightest and most portable melee weapons I can find; a native butcher knife from my Country with Latin words engraved on the blade and a bolo knife that also had Latin words engraved on the blade. I grabbed 2 pistols and some silver bullets as well.
I headed upstairs to where Juan went and came across a room that was similar to a science laboratory you would normally see in school, there were also bookcases with different kinds of books; each shelf would have a category that were written in text like Beastial, Vampiric, Nature, Spectral, Undead, Spirits, Shape -shifters and so on. Juan was sitting on the table reading a book, I have never seen him that focused in my times with him before shit started happening.
I sat beside him and read the pages that he was on, if I recall, the page numbers were 78-79 not that it matters. It talked about bombs, to be specific, bombs that can disorient undead monsters; Ghouls, Draugr, Vampires, Lich, Jiangshi, Tiyanak, Skeleton, Wight, Zombies, Mummies and etc. were categorized as “living corpses of undead”. Banshees, Ghosts, Poltergeists, Wraiths were still forms of undead but are categorized as incorporeal spirits.
There were 3 types of bombs that are effective against the undead and other monsters which we read.
Silver gleam, requires these materials, silver dust, holy water and any fragile container that can break upon impact easily. In my opinion, it was the easiest to make if you have the materials present. It was used to blind the undead and cause some minor burning and can stick on some monsters that were invisible and reveal them; it was kind of like a stun grenade and a detector and was used not only for the undead but some invisible monsters as well.
The Phoenix fire requires sparkler dust, holy oil, fuse, tin foil, Dove feathers and any container that can fit the materials. The Phoenix’s Body is a type of firebomb that is very effective at burning undead and humans alike so all in all it’s a very potent weapon against anything and anyone. It was primarily used for a group of undead that needed to be killed without you going near them.
The Silver Shrapnel was a bomb that required sharp silver bits, gunpowder, holy mineral oil, sand, fuse and any container that you would store them. The Silver Shrapnel was made for undead that are categorized as living corpses. If you miss a target with the Silver Shrapnel, the silver bits would then be used to harm anyone near the blast radius upon impact.
I handed Juan the bolo knife with Latin engravings and a pistol with some silver bullets I got from the armory. He was so engrossed in reading that he brought the book with him, for someone who hated reading from books his whole life, I was surprised. There were already some potions and what looked like ready-made bombs so we bought some back even if we had no idea what the bombs or potions do.
Finally, we went down to the armory and went towards the deep and dark passage. We brought flashlights, lighters and some flares that we found in the armory. It was a long corridor and at the end it leads us to some stairs going up. We went up and found huge metal double doors that were locked and required a password to open up so we went back.
After exploring the basement, we went back to the kitchen and put our bags there just in case we needed to flee because of the things happening around town. We skimmed through some of the paranormal books we found in the armory and the alchemy books we found upstairs. Everything we read was unbelievable even for us who saw the demon that possessed Cecilia.
Cold chills ran down my spine while reading a passage about demons, the terrorizing descriptions, rituals and behavior of these evil entities were inhumanly brutal and rotten to the core. What made them worse is that these demons know how humans think, feel and function socially. Thankfully, the book explained a lot of situations on how to deal with demons. Dreadfully, the methods that needed to deal with a demon weren’t easy at all.
Exorcising a demon is not easy to begin with; think of the movies about demonic spirits and exorcism. Saying Latin words, throwing holy water while praying and chanting some shit isn’t going to work most of the time. There are lesser demons and demons with higher power, with their own bodies and some as spirits. What was confusing was that not all demons were evil like rotten to the core, some are neutral and a few are kind to humans, which greatly astonished me.
Juan’s maidservants weren’t there when we got back to his house from the police station but we didn’t mind or care at all. They are always at the maid’s house or what Juan and I call the “servant’s lair”. It was only when we them gone when we were getting hungry. What was strange is that Juan’s maidservants weren’t anywhere to be seen even though it was already early in the afternoon.
Juan’s maidservants weren’t in the house so we headed to the “servant’s lair” that also belonged to his father. It was silent when we arrived there, as if nobody was there. We brought our melee weapons in case something bad happens; both of us were inexperienced in actually using a gun so we decided to leave it in our backs before we might hurt ourselves or anyone else. We entered the house; we got a scent of blood in our way in.
Something was wrong. We checked the kitchen and found that the knives and some cooking utensils and tools were gone. We were very quiet and careful when we checked each room downstairs but there was nobody there. We went upstairs to the second floor where trails of blood and scratches on the floor were clear as day. I didn’t want to go, it was obviously dangerous. But Juan insisted we go and see if his nanny is there.
Juan has a nanny that took care of him whenever his parents were gone and was his best friend before he met me. He needed to know if she was still alive or if he might be able to save her. We slowly checked each room; we opened each door slowly and saw each of Juan’s maidservants dead with grievous wounds on each of them. The first maid we saw had severed arteries on her jugular and forks piercing her eyes, it was a gruesome sight. I wanted to puke; the stench was horrible, the view was just as nasty.
It was as if I were outside my parents’ bedroom door when the demon murdered my parents. The stench was something else; it was a combination of dead corpses and something like rotten eggs and sulfur. Everything I saw was discouraging but Juan’s eyes said something different; those were the eyes of someone who wanted to save somebody, focused and driven. Finally, we heard some wooden creaking that came from steps near the end of hallway.
Other rooms were open filled with cadavers; each was unique, some had their eyes scooped with spoons that were lying on the bloody floor. Brains bashed by something blunt like the bloody mortar and pestle that was on the ground we saw on one room. Missing limbs, shaved heads some missing fingers and other disgusting shit that people would normally puke from the sight of it. We didn’t stare too long, how could we.
After the showcases of disgusting stuff in each room we passed by quietly and carefully, we finally reached the room where we heard the creaking sounds, Juan and I looked at each other; giving doubtful and terrified expressions on our faces. Everything was silent; I could hear my heart thumping like crazy. We readied our melee weapons and were lip reading; I gave hints using my lips to open the door on the count of 3.
As I slowly moved my lips without uttering a sound; “one, two, three”, Juan twisted the doorknob and kicked the door to open it fast, adrenaline pumping and heavy breathing followed. The walls on the room were painted red with some symbols and other random shit, the floor soaked in blood with the missing limbs we could only assume were from the maidservants.
There were guts, brains, eyes and bloody knives on the floor as well. The room we entered could have won “The most fucked up living room award 2013” if there was ever such a thing. For a few seconds of looking at the disgusting remains, we heard inhuman growling coming from above us. The moment I heard the growling and looked up I almost pissed my jogging pants.
It was Juan’s nanny; her twisted head was looking down on us with eyes black as night, mouth bloody with some meat I could only assume were from the corpses. Her hands and feet were glued to the ceiling like she was standing on all fours like a dog on the floor with her head backwards. We only had our knives with us so we can’t reach her from the ceiling.
Juan looked just as horrified as I was, tears rolling down his eyes with muffled whimpering. Juan and I were backing away from the room as fast as possible while still looking back at the demon. It dropped down from the ceiling and was crawling on all fours while chasing us; it was fast and scary as fuck.
We didn’t come well prepared there; we could have brought the guns as well since fighting demons in close range is just not something anyone would risk. We were still backing away until Juan tumbled on uneven ground from the stairs. She leapt in front of Juan and was about to attack, I went towards Juan to help but I stopped when his pendant started to glow a bright white that disoriented the demon and kind of blinded me temporarily like it was a stun grenade. While the demon was disoriented Juan clutched his bolo knife that fell on the ground and went in for the kill.
Juan aimed at her neck and slashed it through with all his strength. Her head fell down on his crotch which he instantly threw away, scared that it would probably bite. Blood was squirting everywhere; it got on my face, my clothes. Juan was literally bathed in blood. My heart was thumping like crazy, off the charts. Adrenaline mode, everything was still tense after that. Juan and I regretted going inside. Our first-hand experience against a demon was still a success; we both lived and killed whatever it was.
