One from the vault - Heir-y loves camping!

I hate camping, even glamping (glamorous camping). I will happily stay in a cheap hotel or cabin but I really don’t enjoy sleeping on the ground or not being able to sit when I poop. I don’t mind if others want to camp though, you do you. ex-SO had the same opinion and most of the time if we went away we’d stay at small hotels or cozy country cabins (we both had a thing for fireplaces).

One day we were talking about spending some time with a bunch of friends who were going camping near the Blue Mountains. We were discussing the cost of staying in a small cabin adjacent to the campsite and the fact that our friends (who were in tents) could always pop over and use the shower and toilet facilities if they wanted to. Perfect! We’d have a bed, toilet and shower and be close enough to them throughout the day for bushwalks and picnics. Heir-y didn’t think that was okay though, she loves camping apparently and thought we were being rude.

ex-SO: Mother it’s not rude if our friends are okay with it.

ex-MIL: I don’t know why you won’t just go camping.

ex-SO: We choose not to, end of conversation.

ex-MIL: It would be so much cheaper and you need to start saving some money for your family. (ex-SO leaves the room)

Me: Actually since we have no gear it would be more expensive in this instance, we don’t have sleeping bags, an air mattress or even a tent. We could borrow or share cooking implements but most of the big stuff we’d have to buy and it isn’t cheap.

ex-MIL: What rubbish! You are so stubborn sometimes, why can’t you just go along with what other people like, why must you always be so different?

Me: We’re entitled to have our own likes and dislikes. Plus our friends are cool with it, they like to camp, we like to be in a cabin, we all like to go for scenic bushwalks and have picnics and stay up late talking around a fire. It’ll be fine.

ex-SO : Mum you’ll be thrilled, I just messaged my friend and asked if it was okay if you came along and he said yeah. You’re in their tent!

ex-MIL: What! I don’t like you assuming you can tell me what to do.

ex-SO: Same.

ex-MIL: CBF

Me: whispers damn

Ex-MIL: CBF intensifies
